Nanjing Art Museum
Nanjing Art Museum, China. Located in the cultural center of Nanjing in the immediate vicinity of the historic Presidential Palace of today's provincial capital. The new Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum is one of the most important museums in Southeast China. It has space for temporary exhibitions and houses a permanent collection of traditional Chinese art, illustrating the cultural richness of Nanjing, one of the oldest cities in southern China. The new and captivating museum, which won first prize in a competition in 2006, picks up several urban references from its deeply historical location. The main entrance overlooks the main city square, Daxing Gong Shi Min Square. The two structures of the Museum, which rise slightly from each other: both are covered with travertine and are characterized by its narrow window recesses, giving it a monolithic appearance to the museum. At the same time, the alternation between the vertical travertine panels and the window slits gives a precise rhythm to the structure. The travertine used is the Classic Luisa and Dark Cross Cut
